Fronto-cerebellar connectivity mediating cognitive processing speed

چکیده
Processing speed is an important construct in understanding cognition. This study was aimed to control task specificity for the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive processing speed. Forty young adult subjects performed attention tasks of two modalities (auditory and visual) levels rules (compatible incompatible). Block-design fMRI captured BOLD signals during tasks. Thirteen regions interest were defined with reference publicly available activation maps Cognitive derived from reaction times, which yielded six sets connectivity measures. Mixed-effect LASSO regression revealed significant paths suggestive a cerebello-frontal network predicting Among them, three are long range (two fronto-cerebellar, one cerebello-frontal), short (fronto-frontal, cerebello-cerebellar, cerebello-thalamic). The long-range connections likely relate control, short-range rule-based stimulus-response processes. suggests that automaticity, acting on interplaying effortful top–down attentional accounts

Segregated Fronto-Cerebellar Circuits Revealed by Intrinsic Functional Connectivity
Multiple, segregated fronto-cerebellar circuits have been characterized in nonhuman primates using transneuronal tracing techniques including those that target prefrontal areas. Here, we used functional connectivity MRI (fcMRI) in humans (n = 40) to identify 4 topographically distinct fronto-cerebellar circuits that target 1) motor cortex, 2) dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, 3) medial prefrontal...

متن کاملFronto-temporal connectivity predicts cognitive empathy deficits and experiential negative symptoms in schizophrenia.
Impaired cognitive empathy is a core social cognitive deficit in schizophrenia associated with negative symptoms and social functioning. Cognitive empathy and negative symptoms have also been linked to medial prefrontal and temporal brain networks. While shared behavioral and neural underpinnings are suspected for cognitive empathy and negative symptoms, research is needed to test these hypothe...
متن کاملAltered Fronto-Striatal and Fronto-Cerebellar Circuits in Heroin-Dependent Individuals: A Resting-State fMRI Study
BACKGROUND The formation of compulsive pattern of drug use is related to abnormal regional neural activity and functional reorganization in the heroin addicts' brain, but the relationship between heroin-use-induced disrupted local neural activity and its functional organization pattern in resting-state is unknown. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS With fMRI data acquired during resting state fro...
متن کاملMechanisms mediating parallel action monitoring in fronto-striatal circuits
Flexible response adaptation and the control of conflicting information play a pivotal role in daily life. Yet, little is known about the neuronal mechanisms mediating parallel control of these processes. We examined these mechanisms using a multi-methodological approach that integrated data from event-related potentials (ERPs) with structural MRI data and source localisation using sLORETA. Mor...
